Bring TANSAN's world view to Gabbeh!

"TANSAN GABBEH" was born from a design drawn by designers Mizuno and Ino for Gabbeh.

Layout sent the design to the local workshop, and the weavers wove the fabric based on the design drawings, adding a few improvisations.

This is a special Gabbeh created by "TANSAN DESIGN" x "Layout" x "Weaver".

Be soothed by this one-of-a-kind artistic Gabbeh, created through the improvisation of weavers and finishing craftsmen.

Dreams come true!

Finally, the dream collaboration has come true.

Layout has been a big fan of Mizuno and Ino since before the launch of the TANSAN DESIGN brand.
The two have been friends for 10 years and whenever we meet we talk about making a rug together, and finally that dream has come true.

Carbonated Design Room

Founded by textile designers Mizuno Tomoaki and Mizuno Wakana.
With her studio located in the naturally rich land of Shiga, she draws inspiration from her daily life and creates textiles that are vivid memories.
The nearby mountains and rice fields, the houses in the village, the flowers and trees on the walking paths, the murmuring of the river - all sparkle in the sunlight and moonlight. The culture of the destinations and special experiences also add spice to the designs.
Lifestyle itself becomes the concept of creation, and enjoyable experiences transcend the boundaries of art and design, becoming new works and products that make everyday life even more enjoyable.
Starting with their original brand TANSAN TEXTILE, they create works in collaboration and partnership with companies. They are expanding their activities both domestically and internationally, including holding exhibitions in France, providing design instruction in Mongolia, and selling products in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
"Add a fizzy boost to your everyday life."

We asked the Carbonated Design Department

・How did you feel when you received the offer from Layout?

It was a great honor and an interesting request. I wondered what could be done in the world's oldest place for handwoven carpets, with a traditional culture that could be said to be the origin of rugs, and what could be done with the artisans whose techniques are still being passed down.

What image did you have in mind when designing it?

The images we drew with our brushes turned into square pixels when woven, so we were excited to see what kind of atmosphere would be created depending on the thickness of the lines and the artisan's interpretation.
I wondered whether it was really a good idea to give strict design instructions, so I gave almost no instructions on the image, and instead proposed only the original drawings as "words."
Gabbeh is made through the hands of many different craftsmen, not just during the weaving process.
It's like a story woven by the warmth of hands as people pass it on to each other. We are one of those many hands, and I drew this with the feeling that Japan and Iran are one in spirit, even in distant lands.
