Daily care

Daily care

Once you have your favorite rug, you'll probably be concerned about how to care for it.
Just because it's a good product doesn't mean you can just leave it alone, and a little maintenance is important to keep it in good condition for a long time.
Here we will introduce how to care for your rug in your daily life.

Vacuuming

The order is the key

Vacuum the rug in the direction of the pile (grain) to remove dust and other particles.
By vacuuming in the direction of the brush, the pile will lie flat, and dirt and other debris will sit on top of it, making it easier to remove.
Occasionally, you may feel the urge to vacuum against the grain, but in that case, vacuum with the grain at the end to lay the pile flat.
If you leave it on against the grain, the pile will remain standing up, making it easier for dirt and other particles to get into the base of the pile.

High-speed rotating brush OFF!

If the vacuum cleaner is equipped with a high-speed rotating brush, the hair may be forced up.
This will not have a major impact in the short term, but it may have an impact over time, so we recommend turning off the rotating brush or using a different attachment (suction nozzle).
However, some staff members have been using a certain vacuum cleaner with the same suction power for over 15 years and say that they have not had any particular problems.

The robot vacuum cleaner blues

This is based solely on testing by Layout staff at home and feedback from customers, but when it comes to thick rugs like Gabbehs, the robot vacuum cleaner seems to sometimes get over them successfully and sometimes give up, and sometimes it only gets over half the rug before running out of steam.
Also, it seems that the tassels of the rug can get caught and get stuck, so it may be safer to turn the rug in half.

This is the cleaning robot that lives in a staff member's house.
The Gabbeh seems to give up occasionally, but overall it seems to be doing well.

If you spill a drink or something and make it dirty

First aid for wool rugs

Before you get shocked and depressed, press the wet area with something highly absorbent, such as tissue, to absorb the water.
Don't rub it, it will only spread the sadness and there is no good in it.
Once you have removed most of the water, pat the item with a well-wrung wet towel to remove any dirt.
If the stain remains, moisten the item again in the same way as you would to remove a stain, and repeat the process.
In Layout's tests, it was able to remove coffee and cola-sized liquids cleanly without leaving any residue.

This time I spilled coffee on it.
Since this was a test, we left it for about 30 seconds after spilling to allow the liquid to soak in, but at home, don't take the risk and wipe off the water immediately.

Dry cleaning

If you are concerned about stains or odors that cannot be removed with first aid, we recommend dry cleaning at home.

<What you need to prepare>
1. Shampoo diluted about 100 times
2. Sponge and well-wrung wet towel

<How to dry clean>
1. Soak a sponge in diluted shampoo and lather it up
2. Place foam on the stain and pat it with a wet towel in the direction of the pile.
3. Wipe off the foam thoroughly with a clean towel
4. Dry thoroughly in a well-ventilated place out of direct sunlight.

About silk rugs

Silk rugs are very delicate.
If you soak up the moisture with tissue or something and stains remain, please contact us.
We do not recommend treating this yourself as it may cause discoloration or loss of color.

Recommendation for water cleaning

If the detergent has soaked into the rug thoroughly, dry cleaning may not be able to clean the back of the rug, and stains may remain.
Stubborn stains can lead to mold and other damage to the rug, so we recommend washing it in water.

For a more comfortable use

The rug will be happy if you hang it out in a well-ventilated place on a sunny day to let the moisture escape.
It is best to dry in the shade as much as possible, but as long as it is not exposed to strong direct sunlight or for long periods of time, there is no problem, so try drying it inside out.

Drying a large rug requires a lot of strength and courage, so don't push yourself too hard. Instead, fold it in half while it's on the floor, for example, when you vacuum, to allow air to pass through and let the moisture escape.

Wool has a high nap, so placing heavy objects on it will hardly leave marks, but you can reduce the strain on the rug by moving it around occasionally.
Silk rugs tend to leave marks when heavy objects are placed on them, so we recommend using them lightly.
