PASS THE BATON MARKET Vol.17

A reward for myself in 2024

December started with temperatures that were not typical of winter, and we are already halfway through. December brings with it Christmas, but before that, we can't forget about the festival that brings the year to a close: PASS THE BATON MARKET!

This year too, a variety of companies will be participating, including those involved in fashion, interior design, food, and traditional crafts.

You can look at clothes for when winter really sets in, or pick up some delicious food to enjoy over the New Year holidays.
And of course, Team Layout will be there with plenty of rugs to warm your feet and your heart!

A new form born from PTBM

Layout's strong commitment may be a little harsh for the rugs that come from far away in the west.
The local craftsmen's sense of "this will be fine" is simply not at the same level as the Layout staff waiting in Japan.

Of course, the rugs are carefully maintained and cleaned multiple times by local craftsmen, so they are in perfect condition as rugs.
However, some lags will be created that do not meet the Layout standards.

With such strong, almost selfish demands, PTBM has shed light on the rugs that we were unable to introduce as Layout rugs.

As rugs were introduced at PTBM, many customers who bought them said things like, "What's the problem?", "This is good enough," and "I wish they'd sell it on a regular basis." This gave the rugs a strong boost, and Hirai was inspired to step up and create a new product, be:good. (More details below.)

The rugs from [be:good] will be gathering at PTBM, their benefactor!

I'll take these kids!

Here's a sneak peek at the rugs we have.
We will also be introducing them on Instagram!

PASS THE BATON MARKETvol.17 Overview

"PASS THE BATON MARKET Vol.17" will be held at THE CAMPUS, Kokuyo Tokyo Shinagawa Office, on Saturday, December 14th and Sunday, December 15th.
This exhibition is a flea market that sheds light on the background and process of manufacturing and local culture, including B-grade and deadstock items that are stored in corporate warehouses and items that are not normally sold in stores.

The main events this time are "FASHION LOVER'S BAZAAR - Each person's favorite tastes and reasons for each good item," which brings together a huge collection of fashion items that have been sleeping in warehouses, and the "NEW LOCAL" event, which will bring you food booths with a focus on Kagoshima.

There will also be a booth selling traditional crafts called "Dedededensan" and original PASS THE BATON items.

There are also plenty of other items to enjoy in the winter, such as knitwear and scarves, as well as food items to complement your wine and other alcoholic beverages, perfect as a treat for yourself or as a gift for someone special.
Enjoy two days like a treasure hunt, where you will come across masterpieces that you will want to cherish for a long time.
Details of all events and workshop reservations will be announced on December 3rd.

What are be:good rugs?

Be logo included, horizontal

At Layout, we want the excitement our customers feel before they get their rug to last forever, so we put a lot of care into the rugs we deliver.

be:good is a line of rugs that fall just short of that level of commitment, but are still perfectly suitable for everyday use and are full of charm. Layout creates rugs and shapes that are kind to people, so that you can enjoy them more closely, ``just as they are (be)'' and ``with consideration (good)'' without having to make any changes.

Of course, Layout is extremely particular about on-site cleaning and maintenance, so you can use the equipment with peace of mind.

What are Layout's special features?

At Layout, we want people to cherish their rugs as a loving partner in their lives that they can cherish forever.

That's why, in order to ensure that you love your rug even more after you get it, and to deliver it to you in the best possible condition, we are particular about cleaning and maintenance locally, and our staff check the condition of each rug upon arrival in Japan.

<Major checkpoints>

No holes

・Distortion is within 5 cm

No floating lugs

- No paint or dirt on either the front or back

・Gabbeh original type is over 2cm thick

・Other factors, such as the lag, will be considered and judged comprehensively.

We will introduce be:good rugs that do not quite meet Layout's standards, but are still usable without any problems and are good enough for everyday use.

cleaning

At Layout, we have our rugs cleaned by local dry cleaning factories, but since each factory has its own specialty, we ask different factories to clean our tribal rugs and Gabbehs.
There are a variety of skilled and not so skilled factories in the area, so we took the time to carefully select a factory that offers reliable Layout quality, checking the finished product.

Of course, in the future we would like to realize our dream of starting our own dry cleaning factory and creating jobs locally.

Cleaning rugs is very important.

Local carpet makers all say, "They've been washed," which isn't wrong, as rugs are always washed after they're woven, but we don't know when they were actually washed.
Vintage rugs in particular are often not in good condition, even if they have been washed, as they may have been stored in a warehouse for a long time or mixed in with dirty rugs, and although it is difficult to tell by appearance, they are often not in good condition.

Rugs that are not cleaned properly can have dust and other particles that remain on them for a long time, which can cause allergies and mold, so be careful.

<Stretch glue>

When stretching (molding) a rug, glue is used to maintain the shape, but some types of glue can have a pungent odor, and the odor can be stronger during humid seasons.
At Layout, we clean these rugs, but if the problem is not improved, we will not recommend them to our customers.

See you at PTBM!!
