Journey to Iran vol.7

2020.2/16 (Sun) Tabriz → Mashhad Purchasing Day 4 First Half

In the morning, we leave Tabriz and head to Mashhad.
It was completely white from above...it was really cold.
We recommend visiting Tabriz during the warmer months!

When I arrived in Mashhad around noon, Mr. Gholami, who always takes care of me in Mashhad, came to pick me up at the airport.
It's been a long time since we last met! This is Golamy.

First, we left our luggage at the hotel and headed straight to Gholami's warehouse in Mashhad's bazaar.
The temperature is warmer and more comfortable than Tabriz, which gets me excited!

Here's a little introduction to Mashhad.
Mashhad is Iran's second largest city, located in the northeast of the country.

It is the second most populous city after the capital Tehran, and is famous for the Imam Reza Shrine, a holy site for Shiite Islam.
Shrines are not very common in Japan, but I guess they are buildings where people who have had a great religious influence are enshrined.

The mausoleums of Iran are so sparkling and gorgeous!

The square is also a place for everyone to relax and unwind on the rugs (which are machine-woven).
It looks comfortable~

Now, Goramy's warehouse is on the roof of a building that houses only old tribal people, so we all climb about four or five flights of stairs.
Maybe Golamy is so slim because he's constantly going up and down these stairs...

It can get a little messy at times, but the views are amazing.
The Imam Reza Mausoleum looks beautiful too!
We immediately got to see the rugs that they had collected.

The person in the back is Ally, the repair craftsman.

As he showed me the rugs, he taught me the names of many of the Baluchi rug designs.
