『遥か彼方のダンシングクイーン』

"Dancing Queen from Far Away"

Have you ever been in a situation where you were so determined to find something that you couldn't find it at all, only to find yourself wandering into a store out of curiosity, only to have a fateful encounter?
I have such encounters all the time, so I often consult with my wallet, but even though I say I'm consulting, deep down I'm already thinking about what I'll do with the item once I've acquired it, so my wallet is more than half-open and gives me the go-ahead early on.

The rug I'd like to introduce this time is one that I had a fateful encounter with a few years ago when I accompanied a buyer on a purchase.

We were shown rugs at a small carpet shop in Gaehmie, a town where many Qashqai people live, but it was decided that the buyer would not like them, so when we told the shop owner that we wanted to see an older rug, he replied that he had plenty of them in the warehouse, so he closed the shop and drove us off in his car for a few minutes.
The building stands alone in a large space and is filled with piles of rugs. These rugs were collected from various places and left to rest, so to be honest, they are not in the best condition.
It is quite a tough job to unfold and examine each rug one by one, but the joy of finding a treasure is unmatched, so the rugs that passed the first selection are spread out and carefully checked again for color, weave, design, wool texture, condition, etc.

There, the condition of the animals is checked in detail, including their expressions and state, but take a look! Look at that one that stands out the most on the right!
The bright, vibrant blue, and refreshing soda-like rug stood out among the many fizzy reds.

What I fell in love with at first sight was the composition, which makes me imagine a girl talking to a bird, or a diva singing with a microphone in front of no audience, a nostalgic sight now.

The design makes you freeze for a moment, wondering what animals are on either side of her, other than the camels and birds? The staff watching her solo show from a little distance away can also see them.

Is it a dog?

I know camels.

A stylish bird with a hairpin
What on earth is this kid...?
Stimulating this imagination is one of the joys of

The eight-pointed star and the tree of life are drawn around it, making it a truly "typical" design.

It's an old rug, but the composition and color scheme were quite innovative at the time.
It really feels like a new wave in the rug world.
In my imagination, this is a dancing queen with a shining mirror ball above, synthesizer sounds playing, and music with techno elements.
When you think about it, the eight-pointed star and tree of life on the side, the shining rays of light from the mirror bowl, and the Eurobeat groove feel are incredible!

The rug is estimated to be from the 1960s or 1970s, so it definitely belongs to that era.

I came across this rug through a series of coincidences during the limited time I had to spend buying it. It was only for a moment, but if I go back in time, I realize that this rug had been there since before I was born, had been a part of someone's life, and had been a part of my family for a long time, and will now be passed down to the next person.

This rug was repaired over nearly a year after we purchased it, and it was quite some time before it arrived in our hands, so we can't help but wonder if it was fate that caused the rugs we see here to be on display in our store now.

And here along the river in Nakameguro, many customers have had such encounters. Please take this opportunity to come visit Layout, where you may have such an encounter.
