I like humor.
You might think that there is no one who doesn't like humor, but the criteria for choosing things is often whether or not they have a sense of humor.
So, all the rugs in my room fall into the "unique" category, and it's not just rugs; many of the objects and tableware I've selected also have a certain comforting quality that makes me think, "Huh?"
The piece we are introducing this time is an antique Bakhtiari rug from the 1920s. 
This color, which is close to a muted scarlet, is a deep red dyed with madder, and is one of the traditional colors used in Japan since the Heian period, and is said to be famous as a color of high rank.
The balance with the navy is very good and it has a classic aura. 
At first glance, there's no sign of the "Yu" in "unique."
But I know that this rug is not just about high-ranking aura. 
Isn't that a fish you see over there?
There are four fish... in the acanthus leaf (called small fish) pattern of the Mahi pattern.
It's not a deformed fish, it's just the fish itself.
No way! The flesh is firm and would be delicious grilled with salt.
The "Mahi" pattern is often depicted on Persian carpets, which we have previously introduced here.
What is a paralysis pattern?
The name "Mahi" is unique to Tabriz, and the original design is called "Herati."
It is said to have its roots in the town of Herat in Afghanistan, and the design has spread from there, showing distinctive variations in each region and tribe, making it an interesting design.
The pattern has a flower in the center surrounded by four leaves, and when the acanthus leaves were brought to Tabriz, they looked like fish, which is why it came to be called "mahi" in Persian.
Apparently, this curled leaf looked like a small fish.
To weave it as a fish... the humor of the ancient craftsmen has really struck a chord with me, even after 100 years. What a magnificent joke. 
It may be that the intention was completely different, but to me it looked like a paralysis pattern, so humor and all, it's by far the most elegant and stylish rug. 
Not only is the design elegant, but the suppleness and softness of the pile are also impressive.
It has a smooth texture and is as silky smooth as wool, making you wonder how many people have treasured this rug.
It also looks great when paired with more classical designs such as British antique furniture and folk art furniture.
