『ラグとともに』

"With Rag"

Hello everyone, good evening
This is Kaneshiro from Layout.

Before we introduce the rugs today, we have some exciting news for you all!!

The "Layout OKINAWA GOOD lLIFE STORE" will open in late August!

We have been holding pop-up events with Hotel Collective and Plaza House called "A Life Full of Love," and we have introduced some of the recommended items from all over Japan, which we will be carrying in our Naha store too!

We have a wide selection of items that Layout staff wholeheartedly recommend.

Whether you live in Okinawa or are visiting for sightseeing, please come and visit us!

Today, we would like to introduce you to this Baluchi rug that has just arrived in Okinawa.

The color and design were just right for me from the moment I saw it, and I couldn't help but stare at it.

The Baluchi people have the cool phrase "jewels that shine in the darkness," and while they weave chic and cool rugs, they are also a versatile tribe that weaves cute rugs like this one.

The more I learn, the more I become fascinated with the rugs woven by the Baluchi people.

The first thing that catches your eye is the tent-like motif.

Tents are a nomad's "home" and an essential part of their life.

Nowadays, nomads tend to settle down and the number of people living in tents is decreasing, but in the past, they would move around in tents depending on the weather, raising livestock such as sheep and goats.

A cute tent with a pink, blue, and brown design.

I'm sure a fashionable person lived there!

Apparently, people use them to lay rugs inside their tents or as dividers.

What kind of rug is being used here?

Next up, here it is!

A tool for storing small items called a "Torba" made by sewing cloth to the back of a rug.

This is also something that was actually used in the lives of nomads.

If it's made from a rug, it's sure to be extremely durable. It's an item you can love for a long time!

And the rug used in this Torba is lovely!

White lines stand out against a deep burgundy base.

This is a photo that perfectly embodies the Baluchi tribe's phrase "jewels shining in the darkness."

You can enjoy the unique style of Baluchi with just this one rug.

In this way, there is always a lag somewhere in the lives of nomads.

As Japanese people, having rugs as a part of our daily lives seems luxurious and makes us envious!

It is fascinating to be able to get a feel for the lifestyle of nomads through rugs, which are an essential part of their lives.

Even if you can't visit the place, learning about the background and culture through rugs that were actually used in the area will make you feel even more attached to the rugs and make you want to cherish them even more.

Finally, as a bonus, I'd like to share some of the unique features I found about rugs!

That's the fringe here.

It's a part that we don't usually pay much attention to, but if you look closely you'll see that the top and bottom are very different!

The top is straight and smooth, like you've had a straight haircut!

On the other hand, the bottom is bushy.

Is it a natural perm?

Everyone enjoys rugs in their own way.

I hope you all enjoy rugs to the fullest in your own way!!
