[Memories Album]

When I see a patchwork Gabbeh, it feels like I'm arranging old photographs.
It feels like you're peering into someone's mental album.
The rug I'm introducing this time is my favorite panel pattern Gabbeh.

"Here's a canvas. Draw whatever you like on it."
What would you draw if asked to do so?

For some people, their beloved Anpan comes to mind.
Some people recall the scenery of a trip they took with their family.
Some people remember their pets, who always keep them company and comfort them, while others remember being wrapped up in a fluffy duvet bathed in sunlight.
Some people may immediately remember that wonderful time.

This design seems to depict things that the weaver is familiar with, things that she admires, and ideal landscapes on a single canvas.
Now let me give you a glimpse into one person's life.

First, there is a classic animal in the top left.
It is said that the Gabbeh motif represents wealth.
What caught my eye was the diamond design nearby. If you look closely, you can see many diamonds, large and small.
There are also panels with many diamond shapes. Diamond shapes have long been a familiar design to Japanese people, and are apparently depicted on earthenware and ornaments worn by samurai in the Heian period.

It seems to represent the intensely dazzling rays of sunlight and the soft glow of countless stars shining in the night sky.
Perhaps this is a design that only nomads living in the great outdoors can create.

The letter V looks like a crow or a bat taking off.
It's unbearable for those who don't like it, but I imagine it as the end of a day when it's getting a little dark.
It also seems like a sense of relief that the day ended safely.

When I think about it, the design is like a mirage seen beyond the wilderness, where the hot sunlight can make you dizzy.
In front of it are three large, bold rings.
It looks like the lips of the ghost Q-taro. They call it salmon roe lips.

And the one I can relate to the most is "Three Glasses."
It is said that important things are painted on Gabbeh rugs, but I can't live without my glasses these days.
I often end up leaving my glasses in a random place and then have to search around for them, saying, "My glasses, my glasses."
If it's painted on a Gabbeh, it makes you feel like you won't lose it, and it may be a hint that you should keep three as spares.

The aligned square tile Gabbeh is also cute.
Personally, I like patchwork designs that resemble overlapping rugs.

Finally, a design of someone's facial expression with their lips tightly pressed together.
I feel like I'm going to burst out laughing right now
It looks like the corners of her mouth are slightly turned up as she remembers various things while weaving Gabbeh.
The design makes it seem as if you are looking at the expression of the weaver weaving the Gabbeh from the Gabbeh itself. So cute!

Monochrome Gabbehs create a modern atmosphere, so they are recommended for people who don't want to add color to their interior but still admire Gabbehs, or for people who want to create an Italian modern room with a white base.
Please come and step into the world of Gabbeh.
