Hello
This is Numakura from Layout Tokyo.
The rainy season is taking a long time to start in Tokyo.
The other day, I went to Okinawa for the first time. Although Okinawa is in the rainy season, there were some days that were more refreshing than I expected, and I was blessed with good weather.
Then I went to check out the LayoutOKINAWA store and the Plaza House store!
I may be biased, but both stores were so lovely and I was excited.
If you are planning a trip to Okinawa during the summer holidays, please include a visit to Layout in your itinerary and come visit us!
By that time, the much talked about cafe will probably be open!
There were some rugs in both stores that I had never seen before, but the familiar rugs looked different to how they looked in the Tokyo store, and I was reminded of how fascinating rugs are as interior items, as they can look so different in different spaces.
If you find a rug that you like in a store, it will look even more wonderful when you lay it down in a room filled with your favorite things!!
This time, I chose:
At first glance, the wavy, striped edges on the four corners of this rug catch your eye.

The colors are generally calming.
The wavy orange and brown are accented with light beige here and there.
The pattern is not woven from one side, but from various patterns woven towards the center, which suggests that the person who wove this rug wanted it to look beautiful no matter where in the house it was placed or from which angle it was viewed.

The wavy lines are said to represent the flow of water, but with the long-legged camel nearby and the overall color tone, to me they look like ripples in the desert sand that change shape when the wind blows across it.
The sunset rug features dark stripes and shadows cast on the sand ripples illuminated by the sunset, evoking a slow, relaxing moment as the day comes to an end.
It is lively with many peacock and flower motifs woven into it, but it also has a calming atmosphere that is satisfying to the soul.
The diamond-shaped design in the middle represents an oasis. An oasis in the desert. Flowers bloom there, and it's a place where people gather to relax after a long day. That's the feeling I get.

The pattern above the wavy lines, called "bote," is a flame for cooking? Or a flame for light as the sun sets? Either way, it seems like a soft, smoky scent is drifting through the air.
If you're going to lay it in your room, why not place it in a place where you can spend some relaxing time, such as the living room?
Open the windows (it's the image of a nice season) to let some fresh air into the room, set up the coffee table, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and sit down on the rug.
Enjoy the view outside and the sunset from a slightly lower vantage point than usual.
Time seems to pass slowly.
Wonderful.
Finally, I would like to end with the usual "How did this happen?"
Lots of pumpkins.
There is no face.
The long-legged camel also had no face...
Only one has a face...

It was a charming rug that I never got tired of looking at.
