"Exploring Goochan's love for vintage rugs"

Hello! This is Hirai.

The rug I would like to introduce today is...

A Kurdish rug living near the town of Ghuchan in Razavi Khorasan Province in northeastern Iran.

According to locals, it is estimated to be from the 1960s.

I absolutely love the look it gives off when you spread it out.

Speaking of Goochan, I remember when I went there to buy goods in 2019.
I drove several hours from Mashhad to Guchan in search of Kurdish rugs, but I couldn't find much information about rugs in the town, and I still regret not being able to find the rug I was looking for.

All I could find were a few carpet shops. Most of the rugs I found were new kilims, and I also went to a yarn shop, but I couldn't find the rugs I wanted.

However, I also have fond memories of the town, where the trees lining the streets in the center were lush and green, making it a very refreshing and pleasant place to walk.

↑The only photo I could find was of the neighboring town of Bojnord, but it looks something like this!

The landscape was different from that of the arid areas in the southern provinces of Fars and Khorasan where the Baluch people live.
In areas like Hamadan and Kermanshah in the northwest, you can see greenery from the car window, making it a pleasant experience to drive!

It is said that Kurdish people began to live in this area as a result of some Kurdish tribes being relocated to Khorasan from Kurdistan in western Iran to suppress the invading forces of tribes such as the Turkmen, and one of the reasons why they decided to settle here may be that the climate here is somewhat similar to that of their homeland, Kurdistan.

I found this rug a little distance from the bazaar in Tehran.

When I had it spread out, I intuitively thought, "I love it!", but after analyzing it, I realized the reasons why I chose it.

Three points that made me decide to select this rug!

① Low saturation color matching

The overall color saturation is low, and when the pile shines it shines, it has a sophisticated shine that is really beautiful! I feel like this kind of color combination is common in Goochan.

The beige wool warp thread and brown wool weft thread also play a part in bringing the overall colors together nicely!

②Gentle waves

Baluchi is also often used with a design that resembles a wave that surrounds the area.

What I particularly like about this Kurdish rug is that it is white with a green outline and each wave is large.
No! It's like a navy wave surrounded by green. It's interesting how it looks different depending on which color catches your eye.
This plump shape softens the overall atmosphere a little, and it feels like it relieves the tension of the viewer.

The Goochan Kurdish rug in my living room has a similar gentle wave pattern around it.

In Baluchi and other designs, it is said to be a "running dog" design, but one of my rugs has a small bird feather hidden among the waves.
It may have just been that the dots were visible by chance, or it may have been the lady who weaved it's playful touch, but a few months after I had it in my house, I was sitting on the sofa when I suddenly saw the rug and ran over to hug it, exclaiming loudly, "Wow! It's so cute!"
I fell in love with this loose wave design!

3. The eight-pointed star that makes you want to cheer

First, I weave in an eight-pointed star motif. I think the center is a little off. But then I make up for it with the diamond shape above! I had a lot of fun weaving it perfectly centered.

I can't help but want to cheer them on, but they seem to be weak against lag.

There are many other things I like about this rug,
I imagine it would be incredibly relaxing to gaze upon this child lit by soft, indirect lighting in a dimly lit room while sipping coffee...

Just having such a fantasy cross your mind might be enough reason to select it.

When I choose a rug, I always try to find as many points as possible that I like about it.
Your like points will continue to accumulate as you use the rug, so even if you're at 70 out of 100, the day will soon come when you'll exceed 120 points!
