Hello! I'm Hirai, and I've been talking a lot about sheep lately.
When I travel to various places to buy rugs, I am always looking for partners who will help me create original rugs.
In the past, I have attempted to create original rugs several times, such as communicating my detailed design wishes and having samples woven in three completely different regions, or selecting yarn locally and ordering a rug.
Of course, it's not always easy, and the rug that arrives often never gets completed, or it's completely original and far removed from the design that was ordered.
The "different rugs" are adorable in their own way, but there was something a little off about them.
As we took on this challenge, we realized that no matter how carefully we calculated our designs, we would never be able to express the sense and balance that the weavers unconsciously possess, which transcends calculation.
This is how the Gabbeh, named "SEN," was born, a simple design for enjoying sheep.

Undyed wool is characterized by its softness and pleasant texture. Therefore, it may produce a lot of extraneous hair, which is a characteristic of long-pile rugs, when you first start using it.
Layout's usual Gabbeh standards are that the thickness must be at least 2cm, which is our own personal preference, but SEN's larger sizes are woven a little finer and have a slightly shorter pile to prevent loose fibers from coming off.

The sheep you meet there all have slightly different coat colors.
There are sheep of all different colors, including white, brown, black, and gray, and the wool colors are all different. These natural color differences are enough to give the sheep their unique look and individuality, so I tried to keep the design as simple as possible while still maintaining the sheep feel.

I asked them to add a colored line just as a little accent.
Actually, I'm a bit particular about using a single line (SEN) with one knot.
We thought it would be nice to have a Gabbeh that could be styled to create a variety of scenes, both stylish and natural, so we came up with three colors for the line: green, blue, and yellow.

For the edges and pompoms, we spoke to the local Layout finishing craftsmen and had them create original pompoms with a simple two-tone edge.

Some Gabbeh lovers may think that it is too simple and does not look like a Gabbeh.
I can understand how you feel.
I just wanted to enjoy the sheep-like feel a little more.
It is said that the roots of Gabbeh were originally rugs woven from undyed wool with no designs, and I believe that the nomads of that time were the ones who felt the purest gratitude and respect for sheep.
With a feeling of gratitude towards these sheep, we would like to introduce SEN to you all.
We hope that SEN's blank sheep canvas will be a Gabbeh that can create a comfortable and enjoyable space for everyone, whether you're a Gabbeh bartender with many favorite Gabbehs, someone who likes simple but long-lasting items, dogs and cats who love wool rugs, or even us.
