Happy new year
The year 2026 has begun!
We would like to introduce buyer Hirai's favorite rugs from the collection that finally arrived in Japan at the end of last year.
It sounds like the title of a fantasy movie, but today I'm going to talk about Meshkin rugs!
What is Meshkin?
It sounds like there is a fish called "Meshkin" somewhere, and it also sounds like the name of a medicine.
It's a combination of letters that I'm not familiar with, so I don't know what it means just by hearing it.
In 2025, "Meshkin" was a keyword that became a very memorable highlight for me.
A place called Meshkin
This is a town in northern Iran that I stopped off at on a purchasing trip in June 2025, and the official name of the town in Persian appears to be "Meshgin Shahr."
Shahr means town, so it would be Meshgin Town, but when translated into English it is often called Meshkin.
Even when you actually listen to it, it doesn't sound like "Meshgin" so we decided to standardize it as "Meshkin" in Layout, which seems easier to understand and pronounce.
The town of Meshkin is on the way from Ardabil to Tabriz.
As I gazed out the car window, I noticed how the north is rich in nature, with the Caspian Sea nearby, and even though it was June near the town of Meshkin, I could see snow-capped peaks on the tops of the tall mountains in the distance!
*The story of Meshkin's journey will be introduced in detail in the Times Housing Newspaper series in January and February 2026, so stay tuned!
-June 2025 This fun rug was born in a place surrounded by nature on the way to the mountains in Meshkin.
It's long, but there's a lot of cuteness in it.

Even this only shows about half of the whole picture, but there are many birds and some four-legged animals that can be seen at the top.
This area is home to many Shahsavan tribesmen, and their weaving and designs are slightly different from other areas.
Both the warp and weft threads are cotton, the threads are thick and the design is loose, but the weave is relatively firm and the pile is thick.
The length is 299cm and the width is 90cm.
It's a little long, but the longer it is, the more cute birds and creatures there are to choose from, so we hope you'll enjoy it to the fullest.
Close-up 🔍
Let's get up close and take a look at our favorite spots together!
The birds are all unique. They fly out of the jungle or hide quietly, and each one is cute.
Another thing that sets Meshkin rugs apart from those of other regions or tribes is the cute colors they use.
The colors used are pop and eye-catching, such as purple, pink, light blue, and yellow.
This may also be a reflection of the sense of color that the people of Shahsavan have naturally developed while living surrounded by nature and herbs.

Some birds were so hot their upper bodies were bright red.
The pink and red combination is also great.
It stands out well against the soft yellow background.
There is also a divine-looking final act that stands coolly in the center.
The birds, with their impressive thighs, stand on either side like a guard, one keeping a firm watch outside while the other stands blankly, looking away.
This is a good scene as it gives us a glimpse of human and bird patterns.
Layout's way of enjoying rugs is to enjoy your favorites.
If you look around, you'll be surprised to find that 299cm is actually quite large! It will almost certainly fit in an 8-tatami room.
I hope that this year will be a long, healthy one for you, filled with excitement and happiness, just like this long rug.
