Being particular about interior design may seem like a bit of a challenge, but if you think of it as creating a space that is comfortable for you, it's much easier to enjoy. In "Everyone's Interior Stories," we asked our colleagues at Layout to share their room-making stories with us, and share some tips for creating such a room, based on the stories of people who enjoy interior design.
My passion is "mixing with DIY"

In the previous episode of "Everyone's Interior Story," Hiroki Sueyoshi shared the story of how he first discovered interior design. In this second episode, we ask him about his commitment to creating a room.
Sueyoshi says that "interior design expresses the lifestyle of the person," so what is the concept behind the creation of his room?
Living in a style that connects you with your goals, and creating a room
He is the same age as the character in the movie "Back to the Future." Perhaps that's why he's a huge fan of the film. Sueyoshi says that "Back to the Future" embodies what he considers to be "the ultimate cool lifestyle." But does his interior design reflect the American taste of the 1980s? No, it doesn't.
"It's not that I want the item itself, but rather I'm heavily influenced by culture and values. It's like, a casual, unpretentious look is cool. That's how it feels."

His heroes in high school were the band "High Standard." He was captivated by the way they rocked crowds of 20,000 to 30,000 people, despite their casual attire, guitar in hand, and laid-back vibe. He felt like "it was like a guy from the neighborhood starting a revolution," but at the same time, he realized the true essence of their music: "They're cool because they know the real thing."
The standards of what is cool that he discovered in his youth are reflected in his work and in the design of his own room. At work, he has a style that is second to none when it comes to furniture, like the guy next door. He mixes in some DIY to make the furniture he chooses based on his own standards of what is "good" look "just right."
"If you ask me what I'm particular about, I'd say I don't have any particular preferences, but I guess my room-decorating style is a mix of DIY and authentic. It's casual, but it still looks really cool. That might be the most important thing to me."
The more you focus on your interior design, the more you will end up with an interior that is recognized as "authentic" by both yourself and others. Of course, that's a wonderful thing. However, to truly incorporate "authentic" furniture into your lifestyle, you may need to make some adjustments somewhere.
>Next time, Sueyoshi-san will give us some advice on how to enjoy interior design from a professional perspective.
