Since I started working at Layout, the more I learned about the depth of rugs,
I was determined to treat myself to a Gabbeh rug!
However, I didn't want to compromise, so I longed to find a Gabbeh that I would think was "the one!" one day.
I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by rugs every day, so I do come across rugs that catch my eye, but I've never quite found one that really excites me.
And then I finally came across the rug of my dreams.
The size I wanted was 60x40, which would be perfect for placing in front of the entrance or bathroom sink, and something about 2cm thick and heavy.
However, the size I came across was 90cm x 60cm and about 1.3cm thick.
At first, I wondered if it was a little thin. I was conflicted in my mind...
Finally, I tell myself, "bigger is better!" and imagine the rug at home on my days off, and I'm all set to welcome the holidays.
And finally, we arrived at our house.
What I like most about it is the cute pattern: bright red with yellow diamond lines.
The deer and humans are depicted looking happy.
Even the mysterious blue square flowers look like they're dancing, don't they?
Gabbehs come in a variety of relaxed motifs and cute patterns, but I personally prefer more artistic patterns. This Gabbeh, with its relaxed feel and spicy touch, is one of the reasons I think it will be my favorite style for a long time to come.
I feel completely at home in a space surrounded by things I like.
With this pattern and thinness, I think it would be attractive not only to lay it on the floor, but also to hang it on the wall like a tapestry.
A pleasant surprise was that, as I often sit on the floor, I was considering using a 40cm x 40cm or 60cm x 40cm Gabbeh as a cushion, but I found that this size was more suitable for my lifestyle as I wanted to sit comfortably.
Whether you're stretching before bed at night, stretching your legs and watching your favorite movie while drinking, or just waiting for your food to simmer on the weekend, the soft texture will give you a relaxed and luxurious feeling.
Another pleasant surprise was that because it wasn't thick, it wasn't that heavy, so it wasn't a hassle to take it to the nearby beach on my bike.
In winter, I like to relax by the sea on sunny days, so until now I've brought a plastic sheet with me, but starting this year, I've started using a Gabbeh.
The floor wasn't cold and the unevenness of the sand wasn't really noticeable, so I was reminded of the greatness of Gabbeh.
It got covered in quite a bit of sand, but it was completely clean after just 4 or 5 taps.
I don't mind it at all and just leave it in my room.
We have occasionally received concerns from customers who live near the ocean or who enjoy surfing as a hobby, but in my personal opinion, even if you sit on the sand for about an hour and get the rug covered in sand, if you slap it, there's nothing to worry about.
I think I'll be using it more often, not just indoors but also outside on nice days for camping and other outdoor activities.
I also laid it in the entranceway just as I had originally imagined.
When I step into my room after work, the first thing I feel is a soft, smooth floor that is so gentle it almost makes me collapse to my knees, as if it absorbs all my fatigue.
The entrance is an important place, as it is said to be the face of the house, seeing you off in the morning and welcoming you when you come home.
Or, when guests come into your room, having them step on your favorite rug as the first step is also the ultimate form of hospitality, I think.
This size allows me to use it in various places to suit my lifestyle, such as by my bed or at the foot of a reclining chair, so it's the perfect rug for my current living environment.
Having come to appreciate the beauty of Gabbeh and become captivated, I now want an even larger Gabbeh for my next rug.
The desire for rugs is limitless.
