Footprints of Yamagata's Life Vol.10

The columns I wrote at my own pace

We have finally reached our 10th anniversary.

Whether you've read this far or this is your first time here, thank you again for coming to see "Yamagata Yuka's Life Footprints."

I was asked by my boss at Layout to write this column, so this time I would like to introduce you to the ``recent lifestyle of Yamagata people'' and ``how they use their homes.''

Seriously, this is a column about interior design (lol)

Due to the coronavirus, my lifestyle has changed.

I'm sure many people around the world have changed the way they work and spend their time at home.

My most obvious changes are:

・More time spent at home office

・More time to eat meals at home

・I've been spending more time with my family (parents who don't live with me, and my older sister and her husband)

When I wrote it all down, I realized that everything had increased, so I wondered what had decreased. I realized that the obvious decrease was "travel time" and "time spent doing something outside (not work or play)."

Now, I want to make the most of this extra time I'm spending at home, so I've improved my living and dining room.

First, time at home office.

This is an overwhelming increase in time, and online meetings using ZOOM, which have become commonplace, are held every day.

The important thing here is

- Your home is in full view, which can easily lead to embarrassing situations!

・You'll be sitting for a long time and your butt will become flat!

We have improved the dining area to solve these two major problems.

Our dining table is a vintage Scandinavian round table.

I chose this table because I had a strong preference for round shapes, and the reason for that preference is its sustainable design, which means you can sit anywhere!

Thanks to my past self choosing this sustainable option,

・Your home is completely visible!

When I sit at home in my office, I choose a different place to sit than where I usually eat meals.

As a result, I was able to choose a location where the large plant would be the main focus of the background, rather than the back, which I didn't want to be visible!

Furthermore, by working in a different area from where you eat, it was a great success in changing the atmosphere a little, even though it was the same dining area.

In other words, for those who are looking to choose a dining table now, I personally highly recommend a round table.

By the way, I wanted to use different chairs when eating and when working, so I increased the number of chairs from two to three.

The two shell chairs are joined by the Antz chair, the only one with three legs!

※However, Antz wasn't really suited to work > < so,

In the end, we were able to fit it all in by placing three shells.

Another recommendation is to place one big plant instead of many small ones, which is the Yamagata style.

Next up, the pain in the butt.

This problem could no longer be solved by sitting, and since standing meetings were becoming popular, we designated the kitchen counter as a standing meeting location.

Fortunately, we had an open kitchen, so we placed our laptops on the counter and established a style of holding online meetings while standing. However, the problem here was the "background issue."

That's right. What helped me was a "huge plant."

Although it is large, the pot is light, so it is easy to move and can be easily placed at the back of the kitchen counter.

Then, the leaves scattered in all directions effectively hid the background.

It was such a versatile large plant.

This will solve my butt problem and make my time at home in the office much more meaningful.

Furthermore, I didn't feel like I had "started" anything when I started working from home, so I decided to "set a routine for myself!"

After waking up in the morning and getting dressed, I started doing 5 minutes of Tai Chi, similar to radio calisthenics.

After finishing tai chi, I grind my favorite coffee beans for hand-dripping and pour the coffee into a ceramic cup made by my father-in-law.

After taking a break, I start my home office work by having a cup of coffee and quickly looking over today's tasks.

Because our lifestyles have changed due to COVID-19, we thought about how we can make ourselves happy when working from home! By gradually changing the way we use our home and how we use our time,

I now have more time to think, "This is fun!"

Next time,

I've been spending more time eating meals at home.

I would love to talk about the changes that have occurred as a result of this! Look forward to it!
