Rag and Camel

Hello. I'm Buyer H, also known as Hirai.
At "Rug and Camel" I hope to share with you in a relaxed manner my life with rugs.

I would be happy if you could read this while having a drink in hand.

Today, in stark contrast to yesterday's heavy rain, the weather has been beautiful since the morning.
This year, I wasn't able to enjoy cherry blossom viewing at my leisure, so I bought a small cherry blossom at a flower shop and enjoyed the cherry blossom viewing atmosphere every day at home.
All the petals have fallen and new leaves have appeared.
The fresh green leaves are so refreshing and invigorating!

Today's Mission

What I wanted to do today was sort and organize the dyes I brought back from Iran.
The dyes and mordants I received when I went to the yarn dyeing factory are still there, so I'm going to organize them.

I managed to bring it back to Japan by gathering up bags that were lying around the factory, and then carefully transferred the contents into sealable bags.

The bottle contains pomegranate peel.
It seemed a little damp, so I dried it in the sun, being careful not to let it get blown away by the wind, and then put it in a jar.
There are also 11 other types of mordants, including madder, indigo, henna, and white crystals.

There were some things I didn't know what they were,
I will try to find out by asking Mr. A, who is taking care of me in Iran.
I'll talk about the dye used in this rug later...

Home security measures

This is the space right next to the entrance.
Our house is far from being a "hotel-like house with no sense of life" and is cluttered right from the entrance.
There are two camels.
The leather one is sitting and the hemp camel is hiding behind the diffuser. They look like they don't get along very well.
And the mysterious African sandals in the back left.
Apparently my husband bought these at a store with the intention of actually wearing them, but they were completely non-functional so he decided to just display them instead.
I can't walk on it, but the colors are cute and it's a wonderful piece of handiwork, so I like it.

Given the current situation, we have also installed alcohol in the entrance a while ago.
After making two spelling mistakes, I finally managed to write the word "alcohol."

That's what I really wanted to introduce here.
This sturdy looking thing helps as a security measure in our home.

Total length is about 40 cm.
This is a tool used when weaving rugs called "Charne", and is used to tie knots and pack the weft threads.
I've been slowly collecting tools used in weaving rugs, and I also found and bought these while shopping.
Actually, I use it like this:

I love the rusty wooden handle and comb, but it's big and heavy and kind of dangerous! (lol)
I'm holding it in one hand to take a photo, but it's so heavy that my left hand is shaking.

It's quite large, so I was having trouble finding a place to put it, but it looks a bit threatening, so I thought it might be useful for crime prevention, and so I decided to display it in the entrance.

I live in a fairly peaceful town, so I haven't used it yet, but I hope it will come in handy in an emergency.

See you next time!
