hello everyone!
It looks like the rainy season will start early this year.
It's humid and muggy, and it can make you feel down.
I'd like to play on my days off, but it's raining and there's the coronavirus, so I think I'll be spending a lot of time at home.
How do you spend your time at times like these?
I spend a lot of time at home reading or watching anime and movies, but today I'd like to introduce you to rattan weaving, something I've been into since about two years ago (although I only do it occasionally, haha).
It is also known as rattan!
Rattan has a long history and has been used in Japan for over 1,000 years.
Recently, you can often see them being used as baskets or lampshades in general stores and interior design shops.
It would be difficult to make something that big, so this time I tried making a small accessory case! I'll show you how to make it easily☺
By the way, the photo on the cover is of a round trinket box and a trivet!
First, prepare rattan, a grid paper underlay, a pointed stick (what's its official name?), a textbook, and a Gabbeh. (The Gabbeh is important because sitting for long periods of time can cause pain in the buttocks.)

*Rattan will snap if used as is, so soak it in water for a few minutes to soften it before using.
① Make the bottom part.
Place it evenly along the grain of the underlay.

②Then, use other rattan to weave all the way around.

③After that, continue weaving two or three times, adding rattan to the four corners.

④From here, gradually raise the stitches and knit until you reach the desired depth.

⑤ Finally, weave the edges...

⑥Cut off any excess and you're done!

I raised it too much at point ④ and it ended up going a little inward. I guess that's just how it is with handmade items! Let's just say that! Lol

It's the perfect size to put your watch and keys in.
I'm going to try a larger size next time. I hope it turns out well.
Making trivets and other items is surprisingly easy, so give it a try!
Let's enjoy the time we spend at home that looks like it will continue for a while longer!
