Staff CK's favorite things

Hello!

Maybe it's because I'm hunched over in the cold every day, but my shoulders are so swollen and my skin is so dry...

I can't get out of bed in the morning and struggle with sleepiness every morning. (=_=)💤

I'm thinking that I want it to get warmer soon so I can go camping.

Recently, it has become a daily routine for me to pop into second-hand bookstores to look for interesting books.

However, whenever I go to a bookstore, I always feel like I need to go to the toilet... What is that? Does anyone else experience the same thing?

That being said, I'd like to introduce some of my favorite books that I found at second-hand bookstores!

Japanese pronunciation practice book for foreigners

This book was quietly standing in a corner where a row of foreign books were lined up. I can't read English at all, but when I picked it up, I happened to come across it and took it home with me (lol).

This is the book that got me started visiting bookstores with a treasure hunting spirit.

Now, here's the question!

What would this mean in Japanese?

....Yes, time's up! The correct answer is,

ConDie → ConDee → Kandai → Generous!

CheatTechy → Cheat Techy → Chiteki → Intelligent!

Sheet Sue Bou → Sheet Sue Bou → Disappointment!!

(The ending feels a bit forced, though...)

...And so on, many Japanese words are introduced. It has a high rating of 4.5 stars online (*_*)
It seems that foreigners are also having fun studying Japanese.

However, there are some things that are easier to understand in English.

Isn't it okay to just leave the appointment as it is?

Vegetable Handbook

My grandparents are still active farmers, so when I go back to their house, I always stock up on vegetables and load up my carry-on bags with them before going home (laughs).

→Its name is Vegetable Thief.

This book focuses on each vegetable, detailing what ingredients are abundant in each vegetable and what goes well with each vegetable.

The thing that surprised me the most was the cucumber!

It's an essential ingredient in salads, isn't it? However, the compounds in cucumbers can destroy vitamin C, so it's best not to eat them with other raw vegetables.

The salad was cucumber, lettuce and tomato, which was a shock (*_*)
But it's delicious, so I'll probably continue to eat it with raw vegetables.

Condiment Handbook

This is my favorite book out of the three.

This book covers everything from the history of seasonings to how to make them and use them, and is full of ``I see!'' and ``Wow!'' moments.

And, above all, it's practical! (Though I don't cook that much elaborate food...)

For example, soy sauce.

It's a very complex scent,

It is said that there are more than 300 types, including flowers, fruits, vanilla, butter, coffee, and meat.

Apparently, adding a drop of soy sauce to bancha tea gives it a refreshing rose scent! It's definitely worth a try!

On the salt page:

When stir-frying, add a little to hot oil before frying vegetables to bring out the vibrant color of the greens.

It can also be used to remove odors from cutting boards and stains from stuffed animals, so it's great for more than just eating!

Apparently, there are salt sculptures and salt chandeliers in the salt mines of Poland.

I searched and it was a really nice space.

It looks like I'll continue to visit more bookstores. If I find any more recommendations, I'll let you know!
