Staff Y presents two anime works with beautiful cityscapes and interiors

Hello. I'm Yoshitani, also known as staff member Y.

In this article, I will introduce two anime works with beautiful cityscapes and interiors, selected entirely subjectively by me.

Introduction

During the period of self-restraint from going out, I started to get into watching anime as a way to take a break from working at home.

Perhaps as a reaction to being largely indifferent for 27 years, I now spend my days researching synopses and reviews, wondering, "Which show should I try next?"

As I watched various movies, I realized that I seem to like mystery and suspense films.

I watch it on Amazon Prime Video, and recently most of the shows that appear in the recommendations section are in the same genre.

The profound story development is a common charm of the works,

I found a common appeal that made me think, "Maybe this is it too?"

It's the beauty of the cityscape that enhances the story.

Mystery and suspense anime don't often feature characters with strong personalities or flashy action scenes.

The storyline is less central and the main focus is on reading the characters' feelings, in other words, psychological warfare, so in order to create a visually appealing effect, a lot of effort will be put into the cityscape and interiors of the buildings.

The townscape, which seems to have been recreated as it was back then, is just as impressive and detailed as the story itself.

Please enjoy the experience while keeping these things in mind.

The story is set in the Prohibition era in America, in the town of Lawless, which was bustling with the illegal trade of moonshine.

The protagonist, Avilio, arrives in the city once again.

He harbors a desire for revenge against the Vanetti family, who are the enemy of his family.

Together with his reunited best friend Corteo, he goes undercover...

Betrayal and deception in the absurd world of the mafia.

You'll be amazed by the sudden developments that occur over and over again, and won't be able to take your eyes off the story.

It's a work that can be watched more as a drama than as an anime.

The cityscape and fashion of the 1920s are faithfully reproduced.

I think it adds realism and makes it easier to get into the story.

When I looked into it, I found that it was highly reproducible.

There is a scene where a rug is laid out in the boss's room.

I was excited, thinking, "This is tribal!"

The subject matter is quite heavy, but it's a work that's extremely worth watching.

Japan in the early Showa period before World War II.

The "local" engineers who were not from the military,

Without even knowing each other's real names, they undergo the various training required of spies.

He continues to achieve great feats around the world, making a mockery of the Army's plans...

The original work is a short story by Hiroji Yanagi, which has also been made into a live-action film.

I had no idea about it until I watched the anime.

In stark contrast to the ultra-athletic army, with its strict rules, hierarchical relationships, and no tolerance for disobedience, these refreshingly handsome spies take on the case.

Although the main setting is Japan in the early Showa period, there are also episodes that move to Europe and Asian countries of the time, and the cityscapes of those countries are all beautiful.

Although it is an omnibus with each episode being self-contained, each episode has a beginning, development, twist and conclusion in a short amount of time, so I never got bored watching it.

Even I, who am not very knowledgeable, can recognize the voice actors and say, "Oh, this voice is that character's voice," which is also fun.

It's easy to watch, so it's also recommended as a way to take a break.

summary

What did you think?

Using the anime as a starting point, I traced back historical facts,

You may also discover the fascinating aspects of history that you overlooked when you were a student.

Rather, I want to explore the connections between the cityscape, interior design, fashion and history.

Perhaps now I understand it a little better and find it interesting because there are discoveries to be made there.

It doesn't seem like I'll be able to travel comfortably for a while yet,

How about taking a trip into the world of entertainment?

In that case, do it on your favorite rug.
