Staff Y presents: There is meaning in what remains

Hello. I'm Yoshitani, also known as staff member Y.

In this article, I will talk about my experiences as someone who has owned a lot of things and thrown away a lot of things,

I'll show you what I have on hand now.

Introduction

I've been thinking more about ownership lately.

Something that was at its peak the moment you held it in your hands, something that you pick up unconsciously on a daily basis.

When you start to question the things you have, you start to wonder, "Why do I have this now?"

There are some questions for which the answer is readily apparent and some for which it is not.

I don't need things that I can't find answers to or that make me worry.

This year, I've made the bold decision to throw away a lot of things.

So far, I don't have any major regrets or problems, and I actually feel relieved.

When I could understand the commonalities of the things that remained, I felt like I was beginning to understand myself.

Maybe it's because it feels good.

In my case,

  • Can be used without hesitation
  • Minimalist and functional
  • Enriching lives (creating new value)

Currently, the criteria for ownership are narrowed down to these three items.

This time, we will introduce some of the items that meet the above criteria, especially those that we wear or use on a daily basis.

Black and grey clothes

  • H BEAUTY & YOUTH Coach Jacket
  • Levi's Silver Tab Baggy Denim

I've always loved clothes, and my previous job was in the apparel industry,

For about 10 years, I lived a life obsessed with clothes.

Expensive high-end brands and vintage second-hand clothes,

I never settled on a style, and I would get bored of things, buy more, and they would pile up over and over again.

In my case, I think this behavior stemmed from a lack of inner confidence.

This is the item I've cut down the most this year.

I either sold or disposed of roughly 100 items to a purchasing company.

As a result, only black and grey clothes remained.

It is a manifestation of the desire to be yourself, rather than dressing up extravagantly.

I no longer have to worry about clothes at all, and I can now spend each day with a more relaxed attitude.

Silver accessories and watches

  • Vintage Rings
  • Vintage Bracelets
  • CASIO Data Bank

I've lost these wrist ornaments many times in the past and have decided not to wear them anymore.

Thanks to a recommendation from the owner of a second-hand clothing store, I'm now able to wear it again.

I like simple and minimalist designs as a fashion statement,

Putting it on in the morning and taking it off at night is a series of actions.

It began to have the meaning of switching on and off.

That's a great reason to keep owning it.

It functions similarly to the transformation belt in Kamen Rider.

wallet

  • Comme Des Garçons Wallets L-shaped Zip Wallet

As for wallets, we have no choice but to carry one since we have not yet been able to completely make payments in our daily lives cashless.

This wallet is simply minimalist and functional.

Headphones and speakers

  • BOSE QuietComfort 35 wireless headphones II
  • BOSE SOUNDLINK MINI

In recent years, wireless earphones and headphones with noise-canceling functions, such as AirPods Pro, have appeared.

It's been about three years since I started using Bose headphones, and they have now become an indispensable part of my life.

I can listen to music and even YouTube lecture videos without external noise, which is very useful when I want to concentrate.

Wireless speakers are great for relaxing at home.

BOSE products produce deep bass sounds that are clear, making you feel like you're enjoying the music with your whole body.

iPad and music production equipment

  • iPad mini
  • Shure MV-51
  • KORG nanoKEY Studio

I didn't buy this iPad to make music,

Although it came with a campaign from a mobile carrier,

It had been lying dormant with no use.

I happened to come across it and then I became more and more obsessed with it, and that's how I got to where I am today.

To be honest, if you wanted to, you could make it using just an iPad,

Considering work efficiency and sound quality, a keyboard and microphone are also necessary.

There is no end to the things you can be particular about, but there are some products that are relatively inexpensive yet have great design and functionality.

These are the things that I cannot part with; they are the things that enrich my life the most right now.

summary

Before I knew it, this article had turned into simply introducing things I like.

While writing this article, I was reminded that my hobbies and tastes have definitely become more established compared to a few years ago.

After many failures, I was finally able to cut out the unnecessary things, and it helped me remember the things I had thrown away.

Do you have your own standards for ownership?

I would like to hear from a variety of people.

Thank you for reading to the end.
