Time flies, and it's already been six months since I joined Layout.
This time, I would like to introduce my favorite rugs.
Here is the rug I chose.
Here are three reasons why we chose this rug as our top pick.

Nostalgic and mysterious colors
I recently realized that when I first see a rug and think it's nice, the color is a big factor.
The colors are deep, dark browns, reds, and purples.
This rug is a deep reddish-purple color called shrimp-colored, which resembles the ripe berries of wild grapes.
Although it is not a color that you hear about very often, it appears frequently in literature from the Heian period and has been popular in Japan since ancient times.
If the charm of nostalgia is something I feel because I was born in Japan, then I feel grateful for the original landscape of this country that has remained unchanged since ancient times.
Also, the fact that it's neither red nor navy blue gives it a mysterious feel, and it's also irresistible that there aren't many rugs of a similar color.
Retro pattern
As I mentioned earlier about the color, this rug exudes a subtle sense of nostalgia.
The colorful patterns scattered throughout the piece are one of the reasons I feel that way.
The mustard-colored accent color and the cute pattern that looks like a paper balloon seen from above evoke the retro Showa era of the 60s and 70s.
It wouldn't look out of place in a corner of an old-fashioned coffee shop or a sweet shop. It's strange how it makes you feel like you're in Japan, even though it's from a different era.
Balance between long and short sides
The long side does not exceed 100cm, so it fits easily in a single person's room, and the size balance means you can change where you place it depending on your mood, which is also an attractive feature.
In fact, I live alone in a one-room apartment, so my options for rugs are limited.
Among these, it is sized to fit the entrance and kitchen.

In the end, if you can't lay it down, you won't be able to take home the excitement mentioned above.
The most important factor may be finding something that is just right for your room.
If you're unsure about which rug to choose
The impression that each person gets from a rug is different, and each person has their own favorite elements.
This may sound like an exaggeration, but I believe that the values built up through past experiences make a difference.
For example, I spent my childhood in the countryside, surrounded by nature, so I am sensitive to the colors of the seasons.
I love fashion, so I've looked into the trends in colors and patterns by generation.
I've been living alone for a long time, so unless it was a compact size, it didn't seem realistic and I couldn't get into it.
If you're having trouble choosing a rug in a showroom, try changing your perspective a little and talking to the staff about yourself.
The deciding factor lies in an unexpected place.
