This month's recommendation [February 2020]

"Even if you're not 100% my type, I'll gradually grow to like you."

Hello, this is staff member K.

Here are my favorite rugs that I would like to introduce to you today.

This pastel-colored tribal rug has a slightly different atmosphere than the rest of the Layout showroom, which is filled with red tribal rugs.

To be honest, when I first saw this rug, I thought, "It's cute with its unusual color scheme, but honestly, it's not my type." I'm actually a fan of rugs with a more sophisticated and cool look.

Rugs play a big role in creating the impression of a room, so I thought that if I put down a cute rug, the whole room would become cute as well.

What made me start to wonder

Something happened that made me start to take an interest in this rug, which wasn't my type at all.

It all started when I happened to see this rug one day and realized, "This pattern is all birds!!" Birds feature quite often in tribal rugs, but this was the first time I'd seen a rug with so many birds woven into it. What's more, there were many different kinds of birds woven into it.

↑Toy-like bird

I feel like I've seen a toy like this when I was a kid.

↑Smart bird

She also looks smart when she looks back.

↑A bird with a big tail

It might be a peacock. Apparently, peacocks are a symbol of beauty.

Some people may say that it doesn't look like a bird, but to me it does look like a bird.

The weaver may have woven different kinds of birds. I was curious to see how many birds were woven, so I counted them.

There were a whopping 128 birds! (It was hard to count them!)

It was amusing to think how they managed to pack so much into it, and since then it has become one of my favorite rugs.

What made me fall in love with it?

As I mentioned earlier, I thought that if I put a cute rug down, the whole room would look cute too, but something happened that overturned that idea.

I was photographing furniture and a rug together, and when I placed this rug next to some vintage Scandinavian furniture, it ended up looking even more mature and cool than I had imagined.

It looked even more attractive than when the rug was on its own. Some people might think that the use of various colors would cancel out the beauty of the furniture, or that it would be difficult to combine it with colored furniture. However, it turned out to be a perfect match.

Perhaps it's a synergistic effect in styling, but the rug and the furniture complement each other perfectly. I was fascinated by this contrast, and ended up falling in love with this rug, which wasn't my style at all.

By the way, this rug was made in the Caucasus, a region said to be home to many beautiful people and a long life expectancy. Using this rug makes you feel like you too will become a more attractive person.

I'm sure you've had the experience of growing to like someone you weren't initially into. It could be a relationship, or the town you live in... The longer you spend together, the more memories and attachment you have, and the more they become irreplaceable and precious to you. Isn't that wonderful?

When choosing a rug, you may find yourself wondering, "Is this really the right choice?" or unable to make a decision, but even if your first impression isn't perfect, you'll surely notice its charms as you use it.

I hope that this column will be of some help to those who are wondering whether to adopt a pet as their bride.
