A serial blog by Hiroki Sueyoshi of FAH Co., Ltd.
This is my third blog post.
I truly believe that the person I benefit most from writing a blog is myself.
Thank you for requesting the blog.
I am writing this essay as a student, when my report card for Japanese was either a 2 or 3 (on a 5-point scale).
I want to tell myself from 20 years ago.
"Practice writing more."
Back to the topic.
This is the story of when I sent my last blog post to Mr. Maeda.
The reply I received was:
"Good evening, thank you for the interesting content as always."
Despite my age, I gave a fist pump.
It's nice to hear about it.
Last time, the time before that,
I wrote about "What is interior design anyway?" and "Interior design isn't difficult."
So, this time, let's take it a step further.
I would like to write about the theme "Where is the easiest place to start when it comes to interior design?"
Now, let's get to the main topic.
"Where is the easiest place to start with interior design?" I've been working in the interior design industry for 13 years.
Here are some frequently asked questions.
I want to improve the interior of my home, but I don't know where to start.
This is a question that has probably been asked 100 times by a wide range of people.
to be honest,
"It's OK to start from anywhere."
But that answer would put us back to square one...
After much trial and error, here is the answer I arrived at.
"I recommend starting with items that don't change size depending on the room!"
*This is based on the assumption that this is just one interior style.
For many people, the time they start thinking about interior design is when they move out of their parents' home.
Living alone, getting married, etc.
I don't think there are many people who suddenly buy a house. (However, there have been a few couples who have done so.)
So,
Since this isn't a house I'll be living in for long, I want to find something I really like, but I'm hesitant to buy something nice.
So I often hear people say, "I just buy things for now."
Interior items (furniture, miscellaneous items, etc.) can be moved.
This is a very big point, if you buy something nice you can move in with it.
However, be careful here.
Let's remember one thing.
Be careful as the size may vary depending on the room.
The ideal size for items such as tables, sofas, large rugs, and cupboards varies depending on the room.
These are best purchased when you plan to live in the property for a long time.
However, what if you come across something that feels like fate?
I would buy it, especially if it was a one-of-a-kind item.
I think it's best to just buy things that you really want and fall in love with.
Sometimes, these items may limit your property options.
But I felt it was fate, so there was nothing I could do about it.
If it's something you love, you'll probably find it cute!
Except for those fateful cases...
If you want to buy something good,
"We recommend something that doesn't change size depending on the room."
What is that like?
Chairs, lighting, small rugs (such as entrance mats), tableware, etc.
The size of the chairs and lighting is fixed to a certain extent.
Just because a room is big doesn't mean the size of the chair each person sits on will change.
You can take these with you when you move house.
Many of the lights are easily removable.
It's easy to add things that don't change size.
For now, it's fine to have separate chairs to match your dining table, but if you have just one chair, you can use it as a desk in the future or display it in the corner of the room.
You can also use the lighting that you worked hard to buy when you were a student in your bedroom or children's room.
I think it's great when your child grows up and says something like, "I bought this light when I was a student."
By the way, when I started this job 13 years ago, the first chair I bought was called the Ant Chair.
Because I felt the history and romance of the interior.
It's no exaggeration to say that this chair was what got me hooked on interior design.
And now.
I'm writing this blog sitting in that ant chair.
lastly,
I'll say it again.
The answer to "I don't know where to start."
"It's OK to start from anywhere."
But if you don't know where to start, there's a chair that will get you excited just by sitting on it.
Lighting that makes you look forward to the coming of night.
A doormat that will make you excited when you come home.
A dish that makes you want to cook at home.
Why not start with a wall clock that will make you smile every time you look at the time?
