What I'm Thinking About Interior Design Now Vol.5

We offer furniture suggestions not only for homes but also for a variety of places such as restaurants, offices, and clinics.

Due to the nature of Kanazawa, there are also projects where townhouses are renovated into private lodging facilities.
We are currently proposing furniture for restaurants, clinics, beauty salons, and offices, but since these are all different professions, the requests from customers vary, and there are different restrictions than when proposing furniture for homes, and it can be difficult because the people who will be using the furniture don't choose it directly.

For restaurants, we often make suggestions about chairs and tables, and of course we try to match them to the atmosphere of the restaurant, but we also pay attention to the difference in size between the table and chairs (the height of the table top minus the dimensions of the chair seat, which is generally 270mm to 300mm).I once heard from the owner of a ramen shop that by reducing the difference in size and lowering the table top, it becomes easier to scoop up noodles with chopsticks.

The seat of the chair is also important, and the surface materials include cloth, natural leather, faux leather (artificial leather), vinyl leather, and wooden seats.
The shape can be with or without arms, etc. Personally I don't like fake leather, but there are maintenance issues too, so we can accommodate your request.

However, recently, many people are becoming more particular about texture and are choosing fabric or natural leather, which I think is a good trend.
We pay particular attention to the size of the table tops. The size will change depending on the type of food and how it will be served, as well as the size of the restaurant.
There also needs to be space for movement and serving food. When arranging food in a limited space, even a few centimeters can make a big difference.
You may find that you can't fit food in the space after arranging it, but there's no way for people to pass through. Or that you can't place food there. The size will change depending on the number of customers and customer demographics the owner is expecting, so it's important to check during the initial interview. If you make a suggestion without asking, you risk having to start over from scratch, so I always tell myself to be careful.

Well, a lack of listening to the client is a fatal flaw when proposing any type of furniture. The other day, we delivered to a lodging facility that had been renovated from a traditional Japanese townhouse, and the owner was very particular about his furniture, so he wanted us to propose furniture that had a nice texture and would blend in with the townhouse.
The interior space also uses Kaga Gunjo blue.

The delivery route is important

One of the requests we received was for a single king-size mattress (usually two separate mattresses are joined together to make a king-size mattress). The delivery location was on the second floor, but as anyone familiar with machiya houses will know, the stairs are steep and the ceilings are low, so a single king-size mattress would never fit.
In such cases, the item needs to be lifted from the outside. We had confirmed the delivery route in advance, so we were able to meet your request.

When purchasing furniture, many people are concerned about the dimensions of the installation location and the size it will have when installed, but please also check the delivery route and consult with us in advance.
Furniture stores across the country will be grateful if you contact them in advance.

Clinic chair

Recently, I have been proposing furniture for a newly opened orthopedic clinic. This clinic is expected to attract athletes and students from sports clubs, and I am proposing furniture for the entire clinic.

I'm currently meeting with the director to decide on the furniture, and the other day we had a meeting with the physical therapist who will be working there. We had already decided on the chairs for the waiting room and were even discussing what upholstery to use, but when I asked the physical therapist to sit on one of the chairs, he said, "This chair won't do."
I asked, "Why? Isn't it comfortable to sit on?" (Even though we had discussed it so many times and decided on it, and I thought to myself that it should be comfortable to sit on.) The physiotherapist replied, "The seat is too deep, so it causes poor posture. Rather than just relaxing, if this chair doesn't allow you to sit in the correct posture, then there's no point in telling you to maintain good posture."
I thought that made sense, and out of curiosity and wanting to establish a standard for when making further proposals, I had him sit on each of the chairs in the store. It's still under investigation, but it seems that chairs with a shallow seat and a firmer surface that keeps your back straight are probably the most comfortable.
I'm looking for a chair to sit in that makes me feel relaxed even in the waiting room.
This is a good opportunity to reaffirm that different jobs have different ways of thinking and require different functions.
By the time we open this fall, we will be looking for furniture that matches the image of the space and is also functional.
