〇tokyobike / Kiyosumisirakawa・Tokyo
Tokyo Bike began with the idea behind its name. If a bike for the mountains is called a “mountain bike,” then a bike for Tokyo should be called a “Tokyo Bike.”
What we envisioned was the joyful smiles of people riding Tokyo Bikes.
The goal wasn’t just to go fast or to get from one place to another, but to create a tool that adds a subtle change to the everyday routine.
We wanted to make something like a towel with a pleasant texture, a pen that writes smoothly, or a tool that is easy to use.
What lightens our mood in daily life are these thoughtful, unobtrusive touches by creators.
We thought about how to make it enjoyable to ride through Tokyo, with its many signals and hills.
Rather than focusing on speed, we prioritized the lightness you feel when you pedal and the smooth feeling of climbing a hill.
In other words, the design is for experiencing the scenery and the air without thinking about the bike. The theme is TOKYO SLOW.
From there, we designed the frame and carefully selected each part.
This is how Tokyo Bike was created.
〇PASS THE BATON / Nakameguro ・Tokyo
PASS THE BATON is based on the concept of “NEW CYCLE COMMONS,” addressing the issues of resource inefficiency and difficulties faced by companies, brands, and production areas, and introducing them to the world.
Behind the many products that have been mass-produced and consumed, there are also things whose value has been overlooked. For example, items that could only lie dormant in warehouses as irregular goods or dead stock, materials discarded as unnecessary, technologies at risk of extinction if left unattended, and things whose value was only recognized by a small group of enthusiasts.
PASS THE BATON shines a light on these items and brings ‘importance’ and ‘happiness’ to someone.
PASS THE BATON is introducing three brands this time.
・Remake tableware / Nakameguro ・Tokyo
Remake tableware is an original tableware series by PASS THE BATON that has been available since its launch in 2013 and continues to this day. The concept involves remaking irregular items that inevitably arise during the production process of commercial tableware by adding hand-painted designs. Through collaborations with mina perhonen, illustrator Ayako Motonaga, and the creative unit KIGI, we have released products featuring hand-painted designs on plain white tableware used in restaurants.
・giraffe / Nakameguro ・Tokyo
Giraffe is a small gesture of intention.
A small action, A big change.
With a spirit of freedom and defiance, let’s gaze far ahead, like a giraffe.
Something might change.
By each person doing so, change might happen.
Instead of being bound by society, tighten your own neck, and by looking far ahead from a high vantage point like a giraffe, if each of us does so,
the world will become a better place.
・丹嘉 Tanka / Fushimi・Kyoto
‘Tanka,’ a Fushimi doll that has been around for about 270 years. Fushimi dolls are traditional folk toys. Folk toys were created using easily accessible materials such as paper, wood, bamboo, and clay, with the hope of promoting children’s healthy growth, and have been made since the Edo period through to the Meiji era. Each piece was carefully crafted by skilled artisans, but if I were to pinpoint the charm of folk toys, I would say it lies in the “imperfection” that comes from mass production by hand. While considering productivity, the simplification that occurs in the form and painting creates a unique sense of design. Fushimi dolls exude a charm that is different from the calm elegance found in other traditional crafts, offering a sense of familiarity. For this exhibition, we have carefully selected 100 types from among many.

Our aim is to create a recycling-oriented society through a variety of approaches, such as bags made from recycled plastic bottles. By fostering this new industry, we hope to diversify our local economy, boost employment, and revitalize our region. HOZUBAG, our signature item, is repurposed from used paragliders, making it light and durable. Each bag has a different color and style depending on how it was cut and sewn together.
